How to tune for the best ASTRO reception

• Satellite Measat 3 and 3A
• Encrypted HD & SD channel
• ASTRO channel using Ku-band frequency

To find out direction to point dish towards MEASAT 3 & 3A to receive ASTRO channel :

1. go to www.dishpointer.com select your location & select 91.5E for Measat satellite.
2. Follow the direction of green line.
3. To get better accuracy direction, use compass and point dish according azimuth given by "Dish Setup Data" at dishpointer.com
4. Adjust dish elevation (UP/DOWN) by refer at "Dish Setup Data" at dishpointer.com
5. Check signal quality at ASTRO decoder Signal strength. Tighten all nuts when complete setup.
6. The signal strength should be 90% in Malaysia

Advice : ASTRO dish setup is suitable for two people, one for outdoor dish setup and another to inform about signal strength.

Myth : Position your dish higher as possible does not improve ASTRO signal strength. Satellite dish works by capture satellite signal from space, thus you might notice during cloudy or raining the signal strength drop. This because cloud block satellite signal between Satellite and dish receiver. Relocate and point your dish accurate and away from obstacle such as tree or building will help to increase signal capture by your satellite dish.

ASTRO satellite signal 90% after several adjustment

I made this guide about improving Astro satellite signal because I notice most of authorized Astro installer they install without tuning to the optimal maximum strength, mostly would be around 70% which is a huge 20% from mine just spend less than an hour. If you still frustrated with Astro service due to a bad weather frequently (as in Malaysia raining throught out the year) thus you frustration will not completely resolve. Alternatively, you could try MYTV. MYTV is a free digital TV transmit same as normal analog using UHF antenna except this time the broadcast in digital format. The best about MYTV is free and doesn't need fancy device to received MYTV. If you have a DVB-T2 build in tuner in your TV and UHF antenna, you're good to go. But if doesn't have both or either DVB-T2 tuner or UHF antenna you should get one. MYTV reception doesn't effect by weather, suitable for apartment and condominium as doesn't need space to mount satellite dish outdoor.
